Temples of Turuvekere Taluq, Tumkur Dist., Karnataka.





TURUVEKERE (Turu + kere = abundent cows and natural water sources) has got thousands of years history from the time of sages and being an Agrahara given to Bramhins way back in 13th Century. Best of the Sanskrit scholers of Vedas and pooja shastras who were honered from Sringeri Peeta, Mysore Kings are from this place. Turuvekere has few good temples very near to each other built by Hoysala kings important being Moole Shankara Temple, Chennakeshava temple, Ganagadareshwara temple and Sri Mahalakshmi Beteraya swamy temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, oldest of these being 1194 AD. From Bangalore 131 kms with very good road. ( 31 kms from Yediyur)

There are no good hotels at Turuvekere, you may have to come to Yediyur for Mayur KSTDC hotel, Adigas hotels. You may buy fruits and vegetables at this point. You may take lot of photographs of nature and birds.
